Mustafa Batman

Mustafa batman is a Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant in Ataturk Institute for Modern Turkish History at Boğaziçi University. His research explores the concept of social movements through a comparative historical study of protests, revolts and uprisings of people in the beginning of the twentieth century. His master`s thesis titled “Tobacco Smuggling in the Black-Sea Region of the Ottoman Empire 1883-1914” was published by Libra in 2016. batman studied at Leiden University, Institute of Social Science as an exchange student in 2015. His research interests focus on late Ottoman social, economic and cultural history, the history of everyday life and the history of social movements. He has previously worked as a research assistant in the multicultural heritage of Anatolia project that was conducted by Hrant Dink Foundation. He also worked as a teaching assistant at Istanbul Sehir University. In addition, batman has also contributed to the studies and administration of various NGOs and student clubs; and he has participated in congresses, workshops and seminars, and festivals as speaker and organizer.
