Panel for 30 Years after Richard M. Frank: Al-Ghazālī and Avicenna in Post-Classical Islam, consisting of Thérèse-Anne Druart, Jon McGinnis, Toby Mayer, Frank Griffel, and Jan Thiele and hosted by Aseel Alfataftah and Michael Lessman in four parts. This last part of the panel considers possible gaps in Richard M. Frank’s scholarship, e.g. sources he ought to have used; historical, philosophical, theological questions he failed to address, etc. Is his assessment of Ash’arism (and other schools of Islamic discourse) and his characterization of it in relation to others and to Avicenna still relevant? Does it need amendment?
