Begüm Adalet is Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Cornell University. She is the author of Hotels and Highways: The Construction of Modernization Theory in Cold War Turkey (Stanford University Press, 2018), which locates the making and travel of modernization as a theory and practice between Turkey and the United States during the early phases of the Cold War. Her research on the transnational dimensions of James Baldwin’s non-fictional writings has appeared in Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Her current project explores the relationship between land reform, population management, and territoriality.
