Frank Hole is Professor Emeritus and a Senior Research Scientist specializing in the prehistoric cultures of the Near East. He has carried out archaeological and ethnographic fieldwork in Iran and Syria. Recent research in Syria, using satellite imagery, focused on the history of land use and agricultural sustainability. Hole received the Farabi International Award in Tehran in October 2011.
